Accessibility

We want the game to be playable by as many people as possible. This page says where we are, not where we would like to be.

Where we stand

We have not completed a formal accessibility audit of the app, so we do not claim conformance to a standard. We aim at WCAG 2.2 level AA as the target and treat reported barriers as bugs, not as feature requests.

This website

  • Built as plain HTML: headings in order, real links and lists, and a single main landmark per page.
  • Usable with a keyboard alone, and with the browser zoomed or text enlarged.
  • Text is sized in relative units and reflows down to a narrow phone screen.
  • No autoplaying media, no flashing content, no pop-ups over the content.

The app: what we know does not work well

  • The board is drawn on a canvas. A screen reader cannot read the checkers, points, or dice. This is the largest barrier in the product and the hardest to fix.
  • Some screens use a fixed layout that scales to fit.Increasing the system font size does not enlarge text on those screens.
  • Timed turns. Online matches give a limited time per move, which cannot currently be extended.
  • Colour carries meaning on the board — checker colours, highlights for legal moves. Board themes vary in contrast and we have not tested them all against a contrast standard.

What does help today

  • Buttons and controls are real buttons with labels, so system settings such as bold text and reduced motion apply where the platform provides them.
  • Legal moves are highlighted, so play never depends on remembering the rules or reading small print.
  • Every legal move stays on screen until you play it, so nothing depends on reacting to an animation.

Tell us what blocks you

Write to [email protected]with the device you use, the assistive technology if any, and what you could not do. Reports from people who actually need the feature are worth more than any checklist, and they go straight onto our list.

If you need this page or any of our legal documents in another format, ask and we will send one.
